Holistic Equine Therapy

The different phases of rehabilitation, caused by an operation, an injury, or illness, are vital for the healing process. The development of an individual therapy plan and its implementation by our qualified staff can shorten the healing process and ensure a faster recovery back into training. Individual treatment programmes are tailored and adjusted during the horse’s rehabilitation.

Aqua-Training for Horses

Our aqua-trainer (Firma Activo-Med / ISO 9001 certified) has an integrated treadmill. The lowered side walls near the head allow the horse to look around in our therapy centre. Your horse will be held on the lead rope by a specialised staff member, who will accompany it throughout the session. The two laterally mounted windows in the aqua-trainer allow experts to analyse the movement of your horse better. In the aqua-trainer your horse moves on a level, elastic surface in a straight line without rotation.

Our aqua-trainer has many therapeutic values. It is successfully used for back problems, kissing spines, tension and tie-ups, ligament and tendon injuries, chronic inflammation, and for general rehabilitation.

Equestrian professionals can book sessions in the aqua-trainer for developing and maintaining their healthy horse’s fitness level. The aqua-trainer will offer your horse some variety in the daily training and stimulates its motivation. It is also ideal for the preparation of mares and stallions for a licensing, breed shows and performance tests.

TREADMILL

Traditionally the treadmill develops your horse’s strength and endurance without the rider’s weight as an influence. At the moment only treadmills with uphill training can be purchased on the market. Research studies have proven that uphill training with an inclination of 0 – 10% builds the musculature of the hindquarters and improves a horse’s performance by 30%. In addition the horse’s top line is strengthened from the neck over the back. The focus of the training lies in the uphill work to boost muscle activity from the hindquarters in an upward direction as with show jumping horses or with the cadence and uphill movement dressage horses are trained for. The shoulder girdle musculature is often neglected although it deals with shock absorption upon landing in each stride.
In a treadmill with downhill training, the elastic component of the muscles, especially in the shoulder girdle, are also trained and developed just like with uphill training. The energy, that is released in the propulsive phase of the movement, can be properly balanced out by the muscles in the stance phase. This physical balance, determined by gravity, is equally important in dressage as in show jumping.
The idea of a controlled uphill-downhill training on the horse walker has been developed by Stefan Stammer in his Stammer©Kinetics biomechanical concept.

Stammer©Kinetics

The functional understanding of equine locomotion is the foundation for all further therapeutic and advisory services. Stammer©Kinetics processes modern research findings and applies them the biomechanics of the horse.

OSTEOPATHY

Osteopathy stimulates and activates the self-healing power. The osteopath detects functional disorders, for instance in the extent and quality of the movement.
When workload and function change, so will the structure as is observable in the bones, muscles, and flexibility of the joints. The work of the osteopath lies in improving blood circulation through manipulation and techniques that will also stimulate flexibility and improve function.

LASER & MAGNETIC THERAPY

Laser therapy can be applied for joint inflammation, muscle tension, scarring, wound healing, and pain relief.
Laser therapy activates the mitochondria, the power plant of the cell. It generates energy and stimulates the metabolism to push the healing process. Laser has proven valuable in post-operative wound healing, injuries to the bulbs of the heel, or wounds near the joints. Laser can also be successfully applied against thrush.
Magnetic therapy positively influences cell metabolism by pulsating magnetic fields and re-balancing them. Magnetic pulses activate the circulatory system, increase oxygen supply to an injured area, and improve lymphatic drainage. The recovery and healing process for fractures, osteoarthritis, soft tissue injuries, strain, and muscle tension are effectively boosted. In addition, magnetic therapy significantly helps overall recovery after training or competition.
